How to get involved
It is said that a 'Jack of all trades, is a master of none'. This is also true of birds, since one person cannot know all the species as well as one person can know a single species. Recognising this, a Bird in the Hand, aims to unite the knowledge of experts on different species into a user friendly community resource for ageing and sexing any bird species.

Compile an account
Do you know a species really well? Could you determine the age and sex of any individual without a reference guide? If this is you, then compiling an account for that species would be the best way for you to contribute.
Update/edit species accounts
We aim to provide our users with the most up-to-date and best information available. As the portfolio of species accounts grows, we shall also need more people to help with updating and improving the accounts.
Donate photographs
Photographs are the life-blood of a Bird in the Hand, but since every species is different they are also one of the hardest components to accumulate. We need high quality photographs which clearly illustrate each of the characters used to age and sex every species and show the diagnostic features used to identify the species.
Translate an account
Our goal is to share this knowledge with anyone who needs it regardless of the language they speak.
